After months of conditioning, the Minarets baseball season is finally open. On March 13, 2021, Minarets played San Joaquin Memorial, losing 6-2. San Joaquin is Division 2, three divisions above Minarets, and is currently ranked 15th in the entire state. Playing such a tough competitor, regardless of the loss, is considered to be a good experience for the Minarets team.
Leading up to the season opener, several scrimmages were hosted to help the players get back into the groove of playing formal games. The first scrimmage of the season, played against their rival the Liberty Hawks, saw many people from the community coming out to support the team.
Many players expressed that it felt like they were finally getting back to normal.
Junior Caden Shows is grateful to have the season begin, saying that “...even though this season is different the boys will always have a good time together no matter what the circumstances may be.” Per the new norm, rules like “wearing masks, staying six feet apart, and not sharing any equipment” are still in place for teams, according to senior Payton Berube.
As the baseball program continues its season, senior Syler Pillsbury believes that Minarets has a good shot at winning the Central Section Division 5 championship.
Hopes are high, and Minarets can't wait to see how the rest of this year’s baseball season will go for our Mustangs.
