Running for Success: Minarets Cross Country

Updated: May 21, 2020

The idea of Cross Country has been around for a long time- even before it was called Cross Country. In essence, Cross Country is the sport of running. Students who join Cross Country will perform a series of practices every day after school, with the goal of improving themselves as a team so that they can succeed during meets- or competitions- against other teams. During these meets, each team participates in a race, usually either 3 miles or 5 kilometers long.

Senior Aaron Hall, a student now in his second year of Cross Country, recommends that students join the team; “People should join Cross Country not only because it’s an opportunity to get involved, but it’s an opportunity to help build something. Things like Volleyball already have a reputation, but by joining Cross Country you have a chance to build up that reputation yourself.” Aaron also commented on the main complaint that many students might have- the worry that the strict schedule of practice every day after school would make it too difficult to keep up- by saying that joining the team has actually helped him with academics. The limited amount of time forced him to prioritize and spend his time wisely, which are both very useful skills to have.
