Minarets High School is home to a very diverse community when it comes to career opportunities. From smarts to arts, there is sure to be a class for any kind of person. With many options to choose from, there will always be the question of which one should I do, or what would be the best class for me. Well, those are exactly the questions that this plans to help solve. Welcome to “Would You Rather…,” a series that will take two specific paths and take a deep dive look into the kind of classes or activities, there are. Art or music classes?”
The first path we are going to be looking at is art classes. Minarets are home to many art classes, and all of them show all kinds of art. From traditional to digital, they can lead you down many different art-based career paths. All these crafty classes are taught by art teacher Jill Gamble. While in an art class, students will embark on an artistic journey where they will learn about many different styles by completing many hands-on projects. Students will also learn about great artists throughout history. Finally, students will be able to mold and enhance their unique skills.
“Doing art for a class was something I’ve always wanted to do. Because I really liked drawing and art as a way to express myself. I love taking this class because it not only lets me express myself but it helps me improve my skills as an artist,” said junior Gaby Bulgara.
However, the work is not the only great thing about the classes, they also have a very amazing art community. Students will find that many people in the art classes are very friendly and supportive of each other. In the end, the Minarets art classes are a perfect fit for anyone interested in the arts.
The next path we will be looking at is music classes. Minarets are also home to many music classes. There is guitar, percussion, singing, sound and lighting engineering, and even a show band where students play for a crowd. All music classes are taught by music teacher Jason Van Wagner. Depending on the class students choose to embark in, they will receive a very different, but very fun experience. There are the basic music classes, such as guitar, percussion, and singing, where students learn the fundamentals of playing those instruments, and then build their skills off from there. There are then the performing classes, such as show band and marching band, where students perform in front of a crowd. Then there are the more technical music classes, such as sound, lighting, engineering, and design, where students can learn more of the technical skills that it takes to edit and enhance musical performances. However, once again, it is not just the work that makes the classes fantastic. Just like the art classes, the music classes at Minarets are also home to a very amazing music community. Everyone in the music classes treats each other like one big band. If one is interested in a musical career, then the Minarets music classes are a perfect place to start.
Sophomore Caitlyn Vaughn said,” Taking guitar was a last-minute decision at the beginning of the year. I originally didn’t want to take the class at all, but the longer I was there the longer I wanted to stay. I was able to learn a new skill in a relatively easy way. Now the class has become something that I enjoy going to. I am able to learn something new or improve a skill I already have every day I go.”
So which classes are more popular at Minarets, art classes or music classes? After a few days of students voting on the Minarets Instagram page, the results are in: it seems that art classes have won this time. In the end, both the art classes and music classes have a special place in the hearts of every student at Minarets.
