With COVID coming into many lives like a tornado, many in the Minarets community are concerned for what is to become of this season. For the Minarets softball team, many players were disappointed to see the season end so early last semester. Consequently, many questions have been raised over whether softball will come back this year.

DeAnn Kamalani, coach of the team, stated, “Yes, I do believe softball will come back.” She hopes everything will look normal again by spring, but players and coaches may need to wear masks while not playing. There’s also the possibility of having sanitizing stations, wearing masks, and taking temperatures routinely. “I am so ready to meet back with players,” said Kamalani.

Sophomore player Faith Gaitan admitted, “I was very disappointed that our season got cut short last season.” Most players shared similar feelings. “I think [the season] will look different due to COVID because we wouldn’t be able to do most of the things we’d do in a regular season,” she continued. Gaitan misses her teammates deeply and wants to see them again but affirms, “We will come back this year and make it the best season.” With vaccine distributions on the rise, the future of the Minarets softball season is looking brighter and brighter.
