The Native American Club

by Kaleia Dey and Mia Rubalcava

With the school year in full swing, the Native American Club at Minarets High School is back in action. It was created for Native American students to participate in fun activities and opportunities to learn about the many tribes.

"The Native American Club was started to bring awareness to the community through cultural learning opportunities for Native American students, peers, and the community" responded advisers Hadezbahbrisa Benally, also known as Breezy

This club was made with the intention of helping others learn the culture. There are many different Native American tribes and this club helps people have a better understanding of the tribe that they might be in. It is also there to help others who may not be Native American also learn about the culture and the tribes and history.

Benally listed off some fun activities that happen within the club, such as making and crafting things that Native Americans used before modern times. Members will be learning and participating in important hobbies of a tribe’s history. They will also learn more about their ancestry and what they did to survive. Another focus of the club is to participate in current Native American events going on around the area.

“You will have to keep an eye out for anything big that our officers will plan,” Benally states.

Benally also explained reasons as to why others should join, saying that people will learn more about their tribe and learn more about the community. For those interested in joining,

meeting dates will be announced by email, and through the club's social media profile.
