Senior Spotlight: Zoey Matheson

By Felicia Keg

Zoey Matheson is an artistic mind in tune with colors around her and in her work, a very patient and peaceful mind in work as well as school life. In her 4 years being a student at minarets she has showcased those traits in getting her work done and getting involved in art opportunities. With each year here she grew her motivation and path for the future as she has grown in skill and drive.

Her senior year has been her most involved year in art as she has attended art trails, attended art museum trips, contributed to art shows as well as having a dedicated SLE to the 300 building! She is planning on painting quotes on the stairs to showcase the minaret’s motivation that is promoted with things such as “Go Big! Go Pro! Go Now! Go Mustangs!” and her adaptation to the moto context, “There is no failure. You either win or you learn." She has grown her skill in the art in multiple different ways as she has excelled in painting beautiful works with various mediums, began the practice and form of pottery as well as art most forget about, makeup!

Zoey has had a huge love for makeup. She began her practice at 11 and she plans to evolve her skill into a career after graduating. When asked why, she stated, “Ever since I was little I’ve just really loved the art of makeup and taking care of your skin and yourself, it is also an art form I love.” She plans to go to Paul Mitchell to get her cosmetology education and license. It is prevalent that makeup is her passion and it's going to do her well into the future! Many of her friends such as Chloe Tosseti provided credit to her makeup ability as she brings quality and fresh looks to school every day as well as assisting or doing friends' makeup on a few occasions.

During her time at Minarets, she has done art, gaining a relationship with Mrs. Gamble and the art community at Minarets, as well as a consistent relationship with Minarets showband events as she's written articles to highlight them as well as attended in support. When asked about her motivation and greatest moments at minarets she said she has so many to think of but generally moments she had with the friends she made her Sophomore year that she still has today and her boyfriend. Back to her SLE, she is promoting the school’s motto to be even louder than before which is a great senior legacy to leave behind!

We can easily conclude Zoey is on a direct path with her passion and has grown with it in her time at Minarets and hopefully will thrive after graduating. With all four years here it is sad to see someone so involved with the arts go but we hope she does well!
