To kick off the 2020 school year, Minarets is proud to welcome several new teachers to the school district, one of them being the new physics and math teacher, Jaethean Chacon. Chacon, however, is no stranger to the school; working alongside his wife and Minarets guidance counselor Jessica Chacon, Jaethan Chacon has helped coach the Minarets girls volleyball team for the past six seasons.

Before coming on as a full-time teacher at Minarets, Chacon was previously working in Fresno Unified as a middle school teacher. While coaching with his wife here though, Chacon stated, “I got a feel of what the work environment was like and the close sense of community the school had...and realized that there was a potential for me to invest further in the community and continue to grow as a teacher.”

With the first month of school already under his belt, Chacon says he has felt very positive and welcomed. But like many students and teachers can attest to, 2020 has had its ups and downs for him. With the school year starting with distance learning, Chacon said, “It has been challenging...overall has been more of a trial and error method for my teaching. I am in no way comfortable with this form of education, but again we persevere and make it the best we can.”

Besides teaching physics and math, Chacon hopes to introduce aspects of engineering into his classes as well as trying to establish a boys’ volleyball program in the future. Staff and students can expect an exciting year and many more to come with Chacon on the team!
