Mustang's first indoor rally since 2020

By Janine Alven

Since the start of 2020, many things have changed, but, slowly, we are getting back to normal. Starting at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, we have had multiple rallies, though they didn’t take place in typical Minarets rally fashion, being held outside and lacking some of the usual rally aspects.

On April 8, 2022, Minarets held the first rally in the gym since 2020. This rally resembled what returning juniors and seniors remember before COVID and allowed the freshman and sophomores to experience what a traditional rally at Minarets looks like.

At the rally, the classes were given new class intros, the ability to participate in games to earn points for their class, honored the Mustang spring sports teams, talked about the lip dub, and announced the prom theme and location.

The freshman class intro featured a Cocomelon theme. The sophomore class intro had a Shrek theme, the junior class had a Star Wars theme, and the senior class intro featured an Avengers theme with the saying, “In theaters never”.

At the rally, students were able to participate in games to win points for their grade level like kunjabi kan kan, with two students from each grade participating. The winner was Senior Jacob Wheeler-Guy.

The song for the Minarets annual Lip Dub to be held the following week on April 14, 2022, was announced at the rally, with some students participating in a lip sync battle.

Prom is one of the major events left before the end of the school year for juniors and seniors, and any lucky freshman or sophomores that get asked. This year's prom will be held on May 14, 2022, at the Buena Vista Event Center in Madera. During the rally, the theme for the prom was announced as 1920s Hollywood and ticket sales were also announced to begin on April 26, 2022.
