The Volleyball teams have been playing games two times a week at least, for the last three weeks. They have challenged Liberty, Yosemite, Madera South, Immanuel, Edison, Sierra, Fowler, and Caruthers High School. The Varsity team also competed in a two-day tournament Sept. 6, and 7, where they played Avenal, Kerman, Redwood, Porterville, Liberty, and Dinuba. The Frosh and JV teams will be competing in a tournament in Lemoore Sept. 13, and 14.The Varsity record currently, including their tournament, is eleven wins and four losses. Their pre-season officially ended Sept. 7, and they are looking ahead to league, as well as The Nike Tournament of Champions which the team will be attending Oct. 2-6, in Phoenix Arizona.

The Junior Varsity team has a record of one win and one loss for the beginning of league which started Tuesday, Sept. 10. When talking to the JV Coach, Stacy Wold, she explained that this year her JV is a very young team that is working still on fundamentals. According to Wold, despite them being young, they are a great team that is improving. There are six freshman on the Junior Varsity team, the most Coach Wold has had on her team ever. When asked what her goal for the team is this year she said “Well obviously to become better at volleyball, but I think that playing any sport teaches you life lessons, the goal of our program is to speak life into our players, so bringing out the best in them.” The JV Team hopes to keep pushing forward and improving this year.

While the JV team may be very young, the Varsity team has eight seniors. Those seniors are, Haylee Crowe, Lindsay Gilles, Mia Shockley, Lexi Baird, Rylee Mackey, Ashley Bell, Katelyn Hough, and Synovia Wold. Senior and Varsity Captain Synovia Wold, states her opinion saying that “this team is a lot closer than most teams have been because so many seniors have played together for such a long time”. Seven out of eight of these girls have been involved in Volleyball for all four years of their high school experience.

The Frosh team also has been working hard with their season ending soon. Although they have no wins, they have been improving throughout the season. Freshman player Katelynn Mangan says that she has learned to have better relationships with people and has not been so uptight because of her volleyball experience this year.

We look forward to watching the Mustang volleyball teams the rest of the season.
