Boys Soccer: Kickin' Covid's Behind

by Caden Shows and Trever Jobinger

To many’s dismay, the JV and Varsity boys’ soccer teams have been sidelined until February because of the COVID-19 virus. Last year the team had a record of 1-12-1. This year, the team is looking to have a successful year and to give this year's seniors a proper send-off.

The team also has a few new additions this year. Brandon Gaylan, originally from Central High School, has transferred to Minarets High School and is contributing to the improvement of the soccer team. Gaylan is looking forward to playing with Minarets this year, saying, “I'm super excited to be part of this great organization, and I look forward to this season with the team.” He goes on later to say, “The team looks very good this year, and I'm planning on seeing our team grow and play to their full potential.”

Head coach Michael Vaughan, an English teacher here at Minarets, has been coaching the boys' soccer team for several years and is excited to see how the boys will do this year. Vaughan, a former YHS student and soccer player himself, is quite familiar with the game and is improving his team every time they practice. When asked what the season will be like with COVID regulations, Vaughan answered, “Covid limits the number of players that can practice together. Transportation will a hassle as well."

The Minarets JV and Varsity teams are excited about the season and are on their way to playing at their full potential.
