Horsepower Coffee is a business run by students under the supervision of Ag Teacher, Keeley Hall. Hall started the coffee sales, but stated that she got the idea last year from another school after they posted on Facebook and when she shared the idea with the students of the business class they took it from there. They started managing the finances, social media, and making the coffee all in just two weeks!
Junior, Emma Bloodworth, shared that the Minarets Business gets their coffee locally from the Mariposa Coffee Company and sell it to the teachers and staff for $3.50 a cup. They are unable to sell to students or anyone else (excluding staff members) at the moment unless it is at an event such as football games and volleyball games. Staff member, Autumn Alford, explained why that is by sharing that “State Law prohibits the selling of caffeine to any of the students on campus between the hours of midnight and 4:00 p.m”.
Tara Badgeley, a junior here at Minarets, shared that there are multiple flavors of coffee including: Pumpkin Spice, Snickerdoodle, 49ers (original blend), and Decaf 49ers.
Junior, Briley Dahlem, proudly stated that she started the social media for Minarets Business. She also shares that the hardest part of the media group’s task is coming up with unique ways to share about the coffee sales and other projects the class has yet to create.
Senior, Mackenzie Camacho, who is part of the finance team, shares that the cost for supplies is “about a couple hundred dollars a month” and all their profits from sales go towards buying more supplies for the coffee sales. Her assignment is to keep the cost, buyer’s name, etc. on an organized spreadsheet.
