Baseball's First Wins of the 2020 Season!

Before February break, the Varsity baseball team had their first scrimmage of the year and it was a great practice and showcase of what the team will be capable of this year. Varsity pitcher, outfielder, and junior Julian Rocha said, “We played very well, much better than I expected for our first game of the year and season. This year is going to be very solid and we’ll probably end up winning most of our games and really have a shot at being in the valley championship this year. Our team is great but we need to work on being more hyped up in the dugout during the games to hype up our players to do their best out there.”

The team has had to adjust very quickly to the new team because of so many team members graduating last year. Yet the team rallied up and won both of the games, the first one 8-1 and the second game 5-0. Being out there for the game there were some great highlights and some flawless plays. Every grounder and fly ball seemed to be no sweat for the varsity team and our bats were flying with senior Colby Jobinger crushing a ball deep into center outfield for a stand up double.

Varsity baseball coach Jesse Darah said, “It was nice to finally get out on the field and play a game of baseball again. For our first game, we did very well. We lost 8 seniors last year so there are a lot of new faces on the team. Our pitching was phenomenal and we didn’t give up an earned runs. Our defense was very good, having no errors the entire day. With all that, we definitely need to work on our offense and hitting. Our expectations never change; we will always strive to make it to the valley championship every year.”

These two games are just the beginning for the team this year. They’re only going to get better from here and are on track for an amazing 2020 season!
