Back In Person-FFA State Conference

By Cassidy Gibbs and Delaeny Stevenson

From March 26th to March 29th, members from our FFA chapter attended the California State FFA Conference. At the State Conference, there are many things you do such as learning and doing workshops to better your leadership skills. The students attended sessions and workshops throughout the event. A few of the members attended more than just the conference. Lane Sheehan interviewed for a proficiency award and was the state finalist in the area of swine production. Jordan Basila and Brayton Stenberg, were state finalists for the website award. Cassidy Gibbs was a sub-committee chair for the national chapter award. Finally, our Parliamentary Procedure teams competed in state finals where, Novice ended in 3rd place, and our Advanced team ended in 6th.

Melissa Rios, the Ag Mechanics and Welding teacher, attended for the first time. She explained that she loved being able to talk to students and get to know them a little better. She went on to then talk about how she was excited to go for the first and she didn’t know what to expect.

Rios stated, “ Honestly the whole thing was a learning experience for me. It was neat to see the different workshops they offered, the agriscience and career show was pretty epic, and lastly, it was neat seeing our delegates participate in voting.”

The students and teachers had a great time and were ecstatic to be back in person. This was the first in-person state conference in a few years, and it was interesting for them to see what was different or new.
