An Adventure of a Lifetime: an inside look into this year's trip abroad

By Aidan Millar-White

As the 2021-2022 school year comes to an end and summer approaches, students and staff are all getting excited for the beginning of summer when they get to take a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Europe! Let’s take a look at the plan for the trip.

Senior Leah Dunne has been looking forward to this trip for a while now. Dunne can’t wait to travel abroad and make some cool memories!

She says she’s most excited to see Italy, and that her favorite part about traveling is “being able to sightsee and take in everything around me.”

First, they’ll have a total of three meetings before the trip, two of which have already been completed. The first meeting, held on March 30, gave all of the basic information. They then had another meeting with the students on May 3 to give them the opportunity to get to know each other. Finally, there will be one final meeting for the students and parents, and then they’re off!

The trip spans from June 17th to June 25th, which adds up to eight days of fun and travel.

Many of the students are excited to see the history of Italy and Greece. Senior Nyx Uribe is definitely one of these people.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the Vatican, the most because of its rich history of art and architecture," said Uribe.

Uribe really loves seeing new things when he travels and hopes to marvel at the rich history and culture Italy has to offer.

According to the itinerary, throughout their trip, the students will travel to Corinth, Mycenae,

and Epidaurus to Olympia. They’ll go to Patras, then take a ferry ride to Italy and visit Pompeii. Finally, they’ll travel to Rome. From there, they’ll be returning home.

Senior Bella Velazquez says she’s most excited to visit the temple of Athena in Greece.

“I am very excited to be going to different monuments and museums, I think they are the coolest thing!” Velazquez stated.

Additionally, this trip is also an opportunity for students to get some extra credit.

Students have the option of completing an additional assignment when they get back from the trip. This will result in them earning 0.5 elective high school credits or 3.0 college credits. For the high school credit, students will come up with a question to investigate while on tour, and they will create a post-tour project. Students can earn college credits by completing a series of assignments and a final research project with Southern New Hampshire University. The tuition for this is $215.

Travelers are expected to have all necessary documentation and agreements ready and situated, including passports, phone plans, medical profiles, and the expectations contract.

Finally, travelers will be required to follow COVID-19 guidelines, which include:

  • Testing prior to departure and returning home

  • Being fully vaccinated by the trip date

  • Limiting exposure prior to the trip

  • Having proof of negative test and vaccination card, as well as

  • Wearing masks at all times

Everyone going on this trip is excited, to say the least. June can’t come any sooner for these future travelers!
