It's no secret that Minarets Mustangs have an very active FFA chapter. While they are active all year long, they are especially busy during April and early May as its time for competition finals. One of these teams includes land judging, which is a competition where teams from all over the state learn how to properly judge and classify soils and land classes. They cover everything from the color of the soil to how much water it can hold. This is all done so that you can properly classify the land class, which will then tell you what the land is suitable for.
For the competition, there are four pits and each team is given ten minutes to examine each one with together. There is then a twenty minute free-for-all where anyone can go into the pits. Their are four pits per competition you are given 10 minutes per group and an 20 minute free for all where any one can go into the pit.
At the end of the competition, there are sub awards for high individuals and high teams for each pit. The award ceremony includes the top five teams and the top five high individuals. The Minarets Land Judging Team competed at Part One of the finals at Fresno State, where they tied for second but lost after the tie breaking pit. Part Two of the Finals will be held at Cal Poly on May 4, 2019.
