Trash Leads to New Beginnings

Updated: May 21, 2020

To help preserve nature and help our community, Minarets students went to Bass Lake to clean up around the area. This was on December 20, 2018, which was Community day for Minarets. Ag teachers, Jessica Sweet and Kenna Sandberg, advised this Community day activity and the students who wielded trash grabbers, trash bags, bright yellow vests, and a pair of safety gloves to clean up Bass Lake.

Junior Savannah Stout described her participation at the event: “It makes me feel really good to go out and make a difference in others people’s lives! To influence more people than myself is a really good feeling.” She went on to say her favorite part of the day was, “...talking to a lot of people. A lot of people were walking by and they asked me what I was doing. And I said well we are doing community service for our school. And it was great to have these conversations.” Savannah Stout also stated, “I think this day was really successful. At least my group came back with a huge bag of trash!”

Overall, this was a fantastic event that taught our students to be servants to the world and fostered a love for protecting our natural resources. Community Day has served as a new beginning for students and now, many students are ready to go into the new year with helping others in mind.
