Cards and Tags for Valley Children

Updated: May 21, 2020

On December 20th, Minarets High School celebrated our annual community day. Community is a day where our students celebrate the end of the semester by giving back to our community. This is just our way of giving back to the surrounding communities.

For the past three years, teacher Kaitlin Morgan has been making gift tags and Christmas cards for the families at Valley Children's Hospital. Teacher Morgan described the reason for this activity, "The holiday season can be overwhelming, especially for those with children in the hospital. These cards and tags will be donated to these families to help them give their kids a nice Christmas." Every year she supplies her classroom with blank cards, tags, and art supplies for her students to create the these holidays cards and tags.

After our pancake breakfast provided by Kiwanis, students in Morgan's activity went straight to work, decorating cards and tags with stickers, ribbons, and glitter. The festivities continued as they wrote letters for the children who will have to spend the holidays in the hospital.Sophomore Corrin Nielson explained that she joined teacher Morgan's activity because “I know that there are a lot of children who are in the hospital during the holidays and I just thought by making these cards for them, it would bring just a little bit more joy."

All in all, sophomore Molly Smith said “My favorite thing about community day is being around others and having us all come together as one. I think it is a really great experience”. Senior Bryce Norman joined in and said “My favorite part about community day is being able to help the community and making a difference”.

I hope all you Mustangs had an awesome time during Community Day and I hope you all have an amazing break, you deserve it!
