The Natural Resource Season is Underway

Updated: May 21, 2020

To challenge our FFA Natural Resource team members and members from all over California, our school held the sixth annual Minarets Natural Resources invitational. It was held on December 15, 2018 at Minarets. Many classrooms were used for the different sections of the competition such as, plant ID, animal ID, mule packing, a knowledge test, and oral presentations. Students competed on teams of three or four and we had two Minarets teams compete. In total, eleven teams competed.

To get more insight about the feelings of the day I asked natural resource members their opinions on the competition. When asked what his favorite aspect of the competition was freshman, Tyler Jones, said “My favorite part was packing! I really like the problem solving skills it teaches us.” Mackenzie Camacho, junior, when asked about how the oral presentation went said, “It went really well. The topic was about reintegrating wolves into California and we really covered the topic well in our presentation."

Overall, this was a successful event and Reedley Middle College’s team placed first overall. The event was put on by our ag advisors, leadership team, and other FFA members and it was a great learning experience. Stay tuned for more articles on how the Fall FFA contest season progresses.
