NHS Welcomes New Members

Updated: May 21, 2020

High school students around the world strive for success, and one of the main outlets for that success is the National Honors Society, or NHS. All around the nation, groups of students at different high schools get together to do their best to improve the prospects and futures of both the community and local high school graduates. On Monday, October 29, 2018, the Minarets NHS chapter met to welcome new members in their annual Induction Ceremony. This event is integral to the foundation of the National Honors Society, as these new members will continue to sustain it within the school when the current members have graduated. On top of that, membership in the National HonorsSociety lasts a lifetime. Those students inducted into the organization are now officially members indefinitely, making this event very significant to their lives for years to come.

During the event, these new members were all given an official certificates stating their membership, as well as listening to presentations given by junior Synovia Wold, and seniors Nina Sanguinetti, Greta Ziegler, and Katie Linderholm on the four pillars of NHS. These four pillars represent the four fundamental qualities of NHS; Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character, which guide the actions of this organization as they strive for a better community. The current president of the National Honors Society president, Crystal Hernandez, recently spoke about the importance of the society’s future, and what their goals were with the organization at Minarets: “Our goal is to help better not only our community but our seniors. We want to give a farewell gift to the seniors so they can have a good step in the right direction when they graduate”. As stated, National Honors Society wants what is best for the community, and for the students. As such, Crystal encouraged people to join the organization, pointing out that it looks great on college resumes, as well as allowing you to be a part of a positive group that feels like a family.
