Mr. and Ms. Minarets Explained

Updated: May 21, 2020

Minarets High School prides itself as being different from other high schools in ways that include providing every student with MacBook Airs, having a later start time, and integrating project based learning into the curriculum. Homecoming is no exception to this concept of being different. Instead of crowning a traditional homecoming king and queen, administrators have decided to award four students for their dedication for the betterment and/or advancement in positive school culture and having a strong academic presence in the classroom. The students also embody the 6 C’s (community, competency, critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, communication) and always have a Go Big, Go Pro, Go Now mentality. This is a prestigious award that can be put on the winners’ (and nominees’) résumés.

On a more day-to-day level, students who are nominated (even if they did not make the top three in their respective categories) are nominated not because of their social hierarchy status but rather their everyday integrity at school. They do not flaunt their accomplishments and they stay focused on academics and their extracurricular activities such as FFA and sports. The positive atmosphere that these students create can been seen in the classroom and be viewed as a type of professionalism.

Candidates are nominated by the teachers. The top three girls and the top three boys from the underclassmen and senior groups are then listed on a ballot that is sent out to the entire student body to vote upon. The results from the student body determine the winners from the four categories. The winners will be announced during halftime of the varsity football Homecoming game.

This year the finalists for Underclass Ms. Minarets are: Claire Corippo (sophomore), Kate Hough (junior), and Synovia Wold (junior). Underclass Mr. Minarets finalists are: Zac Brown (sophomore), Jake Dowell (sophomore), and Colby Jobinger (junior). The finalists for Senior Ms. Minarets are: Natalie Anselmo, Crystal Hernandez, and Nina Sanguinetti. Senior Mr. Minarets finalists are: Josiah Freeland, Aaron Hall, and Michael Rezendes. Congratulations to all the nominees!
