Blood Drive: All Types Welcome

Updated: May 20, 2020

Students, staff, and communities members gathered at the Minarets gym on Wednesday April 11th to donate blood to the American Red Cross. With the help of the Leadership class setting up and running the event, the Blood Drive was another success!

Students that were able to donate were put on a special schedule and fed throughout the day. In the morning, participating students were given breakfast burritos to eat, and pizza for lunch. They were also encouraged to drink lots of water for health purposes. Each student was given a specific time to donate, and upon arrival, they were each given a t-shirt and a “first time donor” sticker if it was their first time donating.

Junior D’Arcy Garcia, a first-time donor, says, “For my first experience in participating in the blood drive, I had a good time. It was scary at first because I haven’t given blood before, but it turned out to be pretty cool. I had a nice nurse and she took her time and made me feel safe. I was dizzy afterwards but they tended to me pretty quickly and turned out perfectly.”

The turnout was great as always, making the Blood Drive a major success! We look forward to next year and encourage Minarets students and families to donate too.
