Updated: May 20, 2020

By Sydney Meyer and Audrey Phillips

Minarets High School is known for offering a significant amount of clubs and activities for the students to take part in, whether it be sports, FFA, or clubs that help to build up your college resume. Some of our students have involved themselves in more than a few clubs and other activities, while still maintaining a high GPA. This type of academic achievement deserves some acknowledgment, so the Mr. and Ms. Minarets awards began. These awards purpose is to recognize the most exemplary students who go above and beyond.

There are many students deserving of this award, so how are the winners decided? The Minarets High School principal, Daniel Ching, sent out an email to all of the teachers asking for nominations. Our staff picked the most stand out students in their opinion, which resulted in the twelve nominees. There were three female nominations for 9th-11th graders, including sophomore Mandi Villanueva, sophomore Kate Hough, and junior Greta Ziegler. The three nominated male 9th-11th graders were sophomore Garrett Bowe, junior Aaron Hall, and sophomore Hunter Ahrens. The three female senior nominations went to Sarah Brown, Julie Castleman, and Evana Holevas. Finally, the three male senior nominations were Ben Bellisario, Luke Fuller, and Cole Shattuck. All of these students are involved in various school activities, and many are taking leadership roles in clubs as well as being successful in their classes.

After the nominations were announced, a google form was sent to all of the Minarets students to cast their vote. The winners of the Mr. and Ms. Minarets award were presented during half time of the Varsity game on October 6th.
