The Westies: An Act to Remember

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

Drama teacher Kayla West presenting junior Lindsay Martin with her Westie.

The Westies is an event created by teacher Kayla West to reunite of the cast of the plays as well as the drama students. It also serves as a ceremony to recognize the hard work of the aspiring actors at Minarets High School.

According to junior Emma Lynch, “The Westies to me is an event to honor the actors and seniors. It allows us to spend time with the drama family and to reminisce on all that's happened in the past year.” This year was special because the drama program took on not one but two plays, so there was some competition for the actors. Inevitably not everyone can get an award but all the actors get recognized for the roles they played with a wonderful dinner as they get to watch the ceremony and reminisce on the memories of the year.

Seniors Davis Buchanan, Matthew Tafoya, Tate Obernolte, Jordan Tuttle, Mason Hough, Madalynn Rocha with alumnus Jesse Parr.

West also puts together a video for the seniors that are departing the program, which shows pictures of the seniors in every play they were in over their four years at Minarets.

Every year the Westies get better and better with more student involvement, which makes it a magical night.

Special thanks to Mrs. Rocha for providing the wonderful food to the Westies.
