End of Track Season

Updated: Sep 27, 2020

“Almost anyone can compete in track. There are so many events it's like a circus. There is something for anyone who wants to make an effort to be healthy and compete,” explained Linda Teliha, first year track coach at Minarets High School. A former high school coach and teacher, college track athlete, and mother of a former college track athlete, her love for coaching at the high school level never dimmed.

When she noticed that there was an opening for a track coach at Minarets, she applied for many reasons. One being, her love for the sport as well along with the location and reputation of Minarets.

A serious need for equipment is prominent within Minarets track program. Coach Teliha stated, “The main plan expressed so far is the need for equipment including a high jump mat and bar.” The coach's main goals for this years season were to build a team with enough athletes to justify taking a bus to events and establish core standards and team values.

As explained by Coach Teliha the core values are something every track team member should carry with them throughout the season. Below are the values a, b, and c:

  • a- Positive attitude - think of what you are not what you are not , carry that over to your teammates- who are they - remind them and remind yourself….. Daily

  • b- Responsibility - Be at practice. Be at the meets. Be present at practice. Be present at the meets. The whole time.

  • c- Tenacity - The quality or fact of being very determined - always

This year, the track team had a late start. Every athlete improved drastically from the start of the season to the end on their times and or marks.
